Cork’d
I’ve decided to quit beer and go wine for the holidays (to start.) So I joined a wine site and I picked Cork’d because it was designed by a fellow web developer I respect.
Sadly, I have a few complaints about Cork’d since I have been using it. I’m a wine rookie, so I am certainly looking for recommendations. I want to try good and interesting wines and its hard to determine that based on the labels. I also don’t know much about wine, so I am looking for some education also. Cork’d does not really provide either of these. It tries to with the recommendations. I am surprised that Cork’d does not dive in to the current social aspect of web sites. It touches the surface, but it could be so much more. I want a forum, with give and take. Instead the interaction is through a stripped down email service. There is also this strange dichotomy for the rarely updated blog. It seems like an afterthought and just happens to be there. If you are not using RSS you have to consciously remember that it is there and go check it.
Finally, I knew I had seen the little badge graphics on the site before. But I just spent 15 minutes trying to find them again. Why they are in My Account I have no idea, they don’t even include a code snippet.
